England manager Gareth Southgate has made some changes to his backroom staff as he prepares to begin a new cycle in charge of the Three Lions.

On Thursday, the boss will name his first international squad since the 2022 World Cup to begin preparations for next year's European championships.

There are expected to be some changes to his squad but The Telegraph note that Southgate has also overseen some new additions to his backroom staff in a bid to shake things up.

Coach Chris Powell, who has worked with Southgate since 2019 alongside his role in charge of Tottenham's academy, has left the national team and so too has performance psychologist Ian Mitchell.

Mitchell joined England in February 2018 after being praised for his work with the Welsh national team, but he is expected to leave his role alongside several other figures of the Three Lions' psychology department.

One man who could be coming into Southgate's setup is former Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The 50-year-old spent time at Middlesbrough alongside Southgate and also represented the likes of Chelsea and Leeds during his playing days.

Hasselbaink transitioned into management after retiring and has led Burton Albion, Queens Park Rangers and Northampton Town, although he now works as a television pundit.

The changes signal the start of a new cycle for Southgate, who is looking to bring England's long wait for a trophy to an end at the 2024 European Championships.
