Her name is Carol Otieno. The owner of Kigamboni Private Island in Mombasa is a Kenyan businesslady. The woman is a large-scale farmer in Kilifi but lives on Nyali land in the Mombasa district. In 2013, she bought land on one of the many islands called Kigamboni Island for Sh6 million. She has built an ultra-luxury eco-hostel with five bedrooms on one and a half acres of land.

There are procedures and rules that must be completed and followed in order to own a private island in Kenya. First, permission is required from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). Buyers must be committed to protecting the mangrove ecosystem and strike a balance between luxury and sustainability. In an interview, Carroll revealed that he has been dedicated to protecting marine wildlife since he bought the land.
