The Azimio la Umoja Coalition has issued a statement distancing itself from the joint talks between Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, led by the Kenya Kwanza regime. The coalition highlights that their main concerns have not been addressed in the talks and reiterates its commitment to finding lasting solutions to the country's crisis.

Following anti-government protests, the Kenya Kwanza regime issued a joint statement calling for peace talks. However, the Azimio coalition clarifies that their statement was released prior to Kenya Kwanza's, and their substantive issues have not yet been tabled. The coalition emphasizes that the issues driving them to take to the streets, including the cost of living, electoral audit reforms, noninterference in coalitions, and police brutality, have not been adequately addressed.

Maintaining Transparency and Honesty:
Azimio stresses its commitment to engaging in discussions that are guided by utmost good faith and transparency. It expresses the need for honest and transparent dialogue to find lasting solutions to the crisis in the country. However, the coalition makes it clear that it cannot participate in discussions that revolve around establishing positions not provided for by the Constitution.

Divergence in Priorities:
One of the key points of contention raised by members of the Azimio coalition is the absence of the cost of living at the top of the list of discussion topics. Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino, voices concerns and is prepared to return to the streets if the issue remains unaddressed. This highlights the coalition's commitment to prioritizing the concerns of ordinary Kenyans.

Formation of a Committee:
Despite their differences, both sides have agreed to form a 10-member committee to continue the talks. The committee will comprise four members from outside Parliament, two from each side, the Leaders of Majority and Minority from the National Assembly, and four additional Members of Parliament. The former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has been chosen as the facilitator for the peace talks.

Conclusion:
It is evident that the Azimio la Umoja Coalition is committed to addressing the pressing issues affecting the country. By distancing itself from the Ruto-Raila talks, the coalition highlights its dedication to pursuing its four-point agenda for the betterment of all Kenyans. The formation of the committee provides hope for continued dialogue and the potential for finding lasting solutions to the country's crisis.
